Training

Training Focus

Our training is designed to focus on the four components of the IELTS test which are the listening, reading, writing and speaking sections. We tailor our training to meet the unique requirements of each section. Below are brief descriptions of each section and some of the aspects our training focuses on.

Listening

This is the first section of the test and is 40 minutes long. The audio recording is approximately 30 minutes long and candidates answer the 40 questions in the question paper as they listen to the recording. The remaining 10 minutes of the test are allocated to the transferring of answers from the question paper to the answer sheet.

In this section, we focus on the following:

  • listening for answers
  • time management
  • common mistakes and how to avoid them

Reading

This is the second section of the test. It is an hour and comprised of 40 questions. A variety of question types are used ranging from multiple choice to graphic representations. The reading sections are different for the academic and general papers.

In this section we focus on the following:

  • reading strategies
  • marking criteria
  • answering questions effectively
  • common mistakes and how to avoid them

Writing

This is the third section of the test and is an hour long. Candidates are given two different writing tasks that cover a range such as essay, letter, report, e-mail and summary writing. The writing component is different for the academic and general papers.

In this section we focus on the following:

  • writing skills
  • planning before writing
  • effectively answering questions
  • word and time limits
  • coherence and cohesion of written work
  • common mistakes and how to avoid them
Speaking

This is the last section of the test and is approximately 15 minutes long. It is in the form of a  face-to-face interview with an examiner. Candidates not only answer short questions but are also given a topic to speak about at length as well as an opportunity to state their views on a  given subject.

In this section, we focus on the following:

  • effectively answering questions
  • fluency and clarity in speaking
  • vocabulary and grammar
  • common mistakes and how to avoid them
